Dr. Harvey F. Silver

Harvey F. Silver, EdD

President and Founder of Silver Strong & Associates Harvey is an experienced trainer, best-selling author, and dynamic presenter. He has conducted thousands of workshops for schools, districts, and state education organizations throughout the country. With the late Richard W. Strong, he developed The Thoughtful Classroom—a renowned professional development initiative dedicated to “making students as important as standards.” More recently, he led the development of The Thoughtful Classroom Teacher Effectiveness Framework, and has partnered with ASCD to develop initiatives around The Strategic Teacher (book, PLC Guides, DVD) and The Core Six (book, online course, DVD).

Harvey is an author of these Tools books: Tools for Conquering the Common Core, Tools for Thoughtful Assessment, Math Tools: Grades 3-12, and Tools for Active, In-Depth Learning.

Matthew J. Perini, MA

Director of Publishing and Content Development for Silver Strong & Associates Matt is the author of numerous books, curriculum guides, and articles on a wide range of important topics in education, including thinking and learning styles, literacy instruction, and effective teaching practices. More recently, he collaborated with Harvey Silver and Tom Dewing on The Core Six for ASCD and has helped guide the development of The Thoughtful Classroom Teacher Effectiveness Framework and The Strategic Teacher initiative.

Matthew is an author of these Tools books: Science Tools, Tools for Thoughtful Assessment, and Tools for Active, In-Depth Learning.

Abigail L. Boutz, PhD

Author of: Tools for Conquering the Common Core, Tools for Thoughtful Assessment

Abigail has taught, tutored, and mentored students at the elementary through college levels. She has designed training modules and workshop materials for educators in a variety of areas, and has authored a number of curriculum guides in the TextWorks! series.

Joyce Jackson

Author of: Tools for Thoughtful Assessment

Joyce is a seasoned educator, mentor, and coach with over three decades of experience. She has worked with the Kentucky Department of Education as a distinguished educator and recovery specialist, focusing on improving teaching and learning in low-performing schools.

Ed Thomas, PhD

Author of: Math Tools: Grades 3-12

Dr. Ed Thomas founded Dimension 2000, a PD organization for teachers of mathematics. A former educator, he works with teachers as a math consultant, develops educational games and resources, writes practical books and resources, and presents regularly at math education conferences.

Claudia Geocaris, EdD

Author of: Science Tools

Claudia has served over three decades in public education as a science teacher, department chair, principal, and assistant superintendent. As a consultant, she works with teachers and administrators across the country, and also regularly writes and presents about STEM instruction.

Shelley Green, EdD

Author of: Science Tools

Shelley has nearly four decades of experience in education, teaching science at the secondary level, and teaching science methodology and educational research at the graduate level. She is currently an administrator focused on designing STEM curriculum.

John R. Brunsting

Author of: Math Tools: Grades 3-12

A retired teacher, John serves schools as a staff-development specialist, coach, and mathematics consultant focusing on practical instructional techniques. An authority on AP Calculus, he has presented at a number of national and international mathematics education conferences.

Terry Walsh

Author of: Math Tools: Grades 3-12

Terry is a former teacher of mathematics and is an experienced math consultant. He coaches teachers in the use of practical techniques for the mathematics classroom and presents regularly at professional mathematics conferences on a variety of topics.

Cheryl Abla, MA

Author of: Tools for Classroom Instruction That Works

Cheryl works for McREL International, where she trains and coaches K-12 teachers and school leaders on effective instructional strategies, classroom technology, teacher coaching, English language learner support, and how to create an engaging school culture and climate. A long-time teacher and educator, she has presented at educational conferences around the United States and the Pacific, and has authored several articles for McREL’s Changing Schools magazine.
